**40% Reduction in Energy Costs Within 6 Months, Significant Improvement in Production Stability

LAGOS, Nigeria – August 1, 2023 – Faced with Nigeria’s chronic power shortages and the soaring cost of diesel‑generated electricity, a manufacturing plant in Lagos has successfully deployed the WOWTIGER 50kW containerised battery energy storage system (BESS), completely eliminating its reliance on diesel generators. Within six months of commissioning, the plant reduced its energy costs by 40% and achieved markedly improved production stability.
As Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria faces a power supply deficit of 9.8GW, with more than 40% of businesses relying on self‑generated diesel sets to sustain operations. The national grid meets only about 20% of the country’s energy needs. In 2023, Nigerians spent an estimated ₦16.5 trillion (approximately USD 10.3 billion) on off‑grid electricity – nearly two‑thirds of the government’s entire budget for the following year.
The manufacturing sector has been hit hardest. Data from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria shows that spending on alternative energy sources by manufacturers jumped from ₦77.22 billion in 2021 to ₦144.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 87%. A November 2023 report by PwC’s Africa Energy Review noted that the cost of running diesel generators in Nigeria is four times higher than grid electricity tariffs.
For this project, the factory chose the WOWTIGER 50kW containerised BESS. Six months after commissioning, the results have been remarkable: energy costs have been cut by 40%, the plant is completely free from diesel generator dependence and insulated from volatile diesel prices; production continuity has been guaranteed, with power‑outage‑related disruptions greatly reduced; and the elimination of diesel‑generated noise and emissions has significantly improved the working environment.
